THE EDGE 20th Anniversary
The first third of the cigar sees notes of pepper through the nose and some citrus notes on the palate. There is a hint of fig lingering in the background as the cigar develops notes of dark chocolate. As the first third comes to a close a slightly floral note develops on the finish.
Moving into the second third of the cigar the floral notes is front and center til about the half way point when it fades away. The chocolate continues to offer notes of chocolate with a subtle espresso on the finish.
The last third of the 20th Anniversary continues to serve up chocolate notes with a touch of coffee and a bit of nuts, the moderate finish has me feeling if I just ate a snickers bar and that’s a good thing as the 20th Anniversary has fewer calories.

The Fuente family has been making Arturo Fuente Don Carlos cigars since 1976, longer (by four years) than they have been making cigars in the Dominican Republic. The blend is the creation of Carlos Fuente Sr., patriarch of the family. In 2006, his son, Carlos Fuente Jr., made the Don Carlos Edición de Aniversario to celebrate the 30 years of Don Carlos cigars. He swapped out the Cameroon wrapper for the Dominican shade-grown leaf he uses on Fuente Fuente OpusX. He also boosted the cigar's power considerably. The result is a tremendously intense and complex blend, especially in the Double Robusto size. The cigars are wonderful, but especially hard to find due to their extremely limited production.

Stone fruit becomes a more specific ripe cherry, Swiss Miss evolves into red chile dark chocolate bar, and previous spices now show up more along the lines of chicory or black licorice. The smoke texture is dense and vaporous, riding out through the finale with toasted-yet-sweet flavors similar to Cracklin’ Oat Bran cereal.
